Shut Up and do something!
“Remember the last pathetic deaths due to stampede at the senseless Immigration Service recruitment exercise? The organizers should be jailed! Our leaders are corrupt and incompetent… this country needs the right governance and focused leadership… in fact, my city is too dirty, our local government leaders know next to nothing. …”!
Such are the wailings and complaints that have become news headlines today! The social media are filled with complainers and whiners of those who believe they have the right solutions to the problems in our communities, countries and the world at large! The problem is critics and too-knows, just like spectators never really cause any change! This is what this chat is about!
Our world needs actors, not whiners; complaints never solve a problem! If anything, it only aggravates it! So, shut up and do something!
Let’s take two instances:
Mohammed Yunus of Bangladesh! A man that inspires me a lot. Instead of complaining about the poverty and inconsistencies around him, he decided to tune his dreams into a national vision that birthed proactive actions. We know the story; his actions resulted in the lifting of over sixty percent (60%) of Bangladeshis out of poverty. He was crowned the father of microfinance banking.
“Ok! Mohammed Yunus is old”!
I read in the news about an 11-year-old Ghanaian schoolboy who donated all his savings worth $500 to the drought victims in Somalia. Andrew Andasi became bothered and uncomfortable, full of empathy as he heard the United Nations’ news about the 3.6 million people who were at the risk of starvation in Somalia. He was moved by the images he saw of Somali women and children walking for days in search of food. Instead of a mere wish for their survival, the Ghanaian schoolboy launched a campaign after his donation – which he titled “Save Somali Children From Hunger” to raise 13 million Dollars for the drought-stricken Somali people. Today, He has become a world figure as he has since then been invited to different TV shows, interviews and different meetings with Global Organizations. How is that for a sacrificial life?
So, I don’t really care about how bad the political leaders are, or how your local government leaders embezzled your hard-earned funds or even how your close relative was sacked for not taking bribes … I am more disappointed that you have not done anything about that! You are educated! You know your rights! You know you can do something! Most likely, you have the best solution! All you do is fold your arms and whine on your facebook timeline. You are the wicked and heartless person! I’m sorry but that’s my opinion!
Courageous people who gets their names etched in the sands of time and live impactful lives do not sit down with folded arms … rather, they against all odds, faced their giants and exceeded their limits. A great life is characterized by a positive mind, witty and diligent spirit, determination, confidence, courage and doggedness.
I said all that in a bid to inspire you greatly towards achieving your most desired goals. However, it is still your choice to decide to take pragmatic actions about the issues you are most passionate about! I BELIEVE its time to get angry, ANGRY enough to STOP all these whining hasn’t done much good anyway. To Think and take strategic actions! My ultimate question is: What will you do if you were not afraid?
When a child sits and does not try to crawl, he denies himself the opportunity to walk. Though nobody seems to be of help all of his days of sitting and crawling, the day he tries to stand, he attracts help from all around. It is the same with you when you never attempt to stand up for what you believe to be right about your life!
Once you decide to take an action in the right direction, heaven and earth supplies all the help you will ever need to get you accomplished. Sometimes you win, sometime you learn; though you may miss you footing, do not lose your focus!
Stupidity and Pride make some people put their pride first! They are more concerned about how good they look, their social status and all … Often, these folks live on borrowed funds because they have simply misplaced the priority!
Listen, life really does not care about your pride! It will only expect you to be courageous and to accomplish something valuable and then reward you accordingly! Then you will feel good about yourself and literally do whatever you like.
Every morning a gazelle wakes up, it knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a Lion wakes up, it knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle…when the sun comes up, you’d better be running!
Thank you for listening. Oh! You remember that question, what would you do if you were not afraid, I once asked a young boy (Akeem) and he told me “I will change my name to yours” My name is Kehinde Fawumi, and I am happy.
